I've sat in a load of American lessons, they teach simple things in complicated ways and usually don't even teach things like maths, just give examples. Social studies is hardly to do with sociology, it's just American history, in UK we learn history AND social studies. They don't get let outside until after school (where I saw). If they are late by a few seconds they need to get a late slip. Why is American history so important, no-one cares about the history..it isn't good anyway it's just a lot of killing innocent people. Teaching all that stuff makes people so big headed and think "I'm the best and live in the best country". When they leave school their grades are worth less than UK grades yet they have school for an extra 2 years. The grade is the same as everyone else's, how can you tell if someone is capable of something or better at something than someone else? Why doesn't America copy the UK(country with the best education in the world) rather than improving it..backwards

I had to limit the grammar and have only a single paragraph because there is a character limit. America has a lot of money, that is why I have chosen their education system. Grammar of a 3rd grade student isn't really a funny joke. I know most people are defending their country but most American's I know hate their education system and wish it was different. Don't you wish your education system was better Americans?

I was in every top group and my lowest grade is a C, I have got a Key Skills level in Maths and am doing an IT Higher Diploma course (recognised worldwide). During this time I am working on Key Skills level for language and communications and during the first year of the course I have also completed a level 2 online IT course. It is called "No Children Left Behind". President Bush passed the law not too long after he got into office. His theory was to test the children so we can see how the teachers are doing and how the students are learning. The idea is not bad at all, but the implementation failed. Teachers currently "Teach to the Test" and do not allow thought for external examination.
The best learning is where a question is asked and the student can think and come up with their own ideas. It could be a novel thought, but everything comes down to facts. Does the student know that the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776. What about the Articles of Confederation? Constitution?
They are not given a chance to explore outside thoughts. How would life be different if the British allowed America to become its own country and not through the violent "Revolutionary War"? Science could be taught differently. Fact: The earth is round. Water covers 70% of the surface. Next fact: Mammals have to breath air, have hair on their body, and do live births. That gets boring quickly. I would like for schools to show how do we know that the earth is round. Set up an experiment similar to Gailileo's that had the proof that it was round.
There is an organization that is trying to get advanced learning and ideas through the world. It is the International Baccalaureate Organization. It is a good program and one that I went through while in American schools. When I visited other schools outside America, they also had IB schools.

Every country has has it own educational system. It is worrying that you will readily berate the educational system of one country in comparison to this one but will not consider other educational systems around the world. Of all of the countries to worry about why is it America that bothers you the most? America has not copied the UK educational system because our systems has many faults of it own. Rising lack of discipline, is one of our problems maybe the Americans are looking at some of other country's issues in education and trying resolve them within their own educational environment. As for learning in an American educational system if you are bright enough to establish that the teaching is not of high enough quality then surely you will have no problem ac hiving high grades. The best of luck to you.

One big issue is the pay structure. I considered teaching when I was in college, but I wouldn't make 1/2 the salary I do now only 3 years later. I may consider it when I am looking at retirement, but there is no way a highly educated individual would take $35,000 a year when they could be making 6 figures.

I hope by the standard of your grammar that you were not educated in the UK!
I did GCSE history and all we studied were the world wars. No Romans, no Greeks, on Saxons, no Vikings, no colonial era, nothing except WW1, the treaty of Versailles, Weimar Germany, the rise of Hitler and WW2. That's all UK kids get taught of history these days.
