Well I am in labor, the early stages, how can I speed things up and get my water to break? Does walking really help? What else can I try?
Oh and just a helpful hint for all those that want those who want to say have sex.... recommend it if you know it only works if you are solo.

Family history, all were short labors and I've been in labor since Sunday night. I guess I'll go and walk. I'll walk up and down the stairs at the mall, or something.

this is going to sound weird but my friend's doctor told her to play with her nipples I guess it stimulates something or other so I guess he left the room and she did and I guess it helped I just think I would have felt so stupid sitting in the doctors office playing with my boobies.

Well when I was in labor I walked. I walked as much as I could. Gravity helps bring the baby down. This is the only thing I did. I then had the DR break my water and had him 1 hour and 58 minutes after the DR broke my water at 4cm. LOL So in an hour in 58 minutes I went up 6 cm to 10 cm. Good luck and CONGRATS!

Walking does help a lot but the baby will take its own time. Try and look at your family history and that should give you a good idea of how long labor will last. My entire family has very short labors and mine was also. I only pushed twice and she popped right out. She came so fast the doctor freaked out! lol! That was my first pregnancy also!

Walking is fine, but really nothing is going to speed you up - let nature do it's thing. Just because it runs in your family doesn't mean that you'll have short labor too - there's a lot of factors involved.

if you're already having contractions, then just hang out and wait for them to get stronger. your water doesn't have to break for you to go to the hospital.
i started contracting on a saturday morning and we went to a friend's house and hung out all day and by that night i was contracting hard enough that i felt it was time to go to the hospital. my water didn't break until the middle of the night.
so, hang in there and once your contractions get to the point where you can't really talk during them and you have to take deep breaths to get through it....go to the hospital!!!
you'll do great, mom!
take care.
p.s. don't worry about taking nightgowns...just use the hospital's gowns, b/c you'll ruin your own, and be sure to take a bag with some empty space for all of the stuff you get at the hospital....

Walk - but your water may still not break - I was in labor for 24 hours before mine broke. Good luck and congrats!

Just go about you daily routine,
get your bags packed, and stuff for the baby,
and make sure to take an extra bag, cause you can take all the stuff from the hospital, and you'll need it trust me.
call some friends and someone to support you, maybe they can come over and hang out,
eat light tho cause you don't want to BOo BOO on the table.
drink plenty of fluids,
But don't try to break your water, it keeps the pain from being so intense,
Good luck and let us know what he/she is, size shape ext...
Hooray!!!!

Definately walk. They'll make you do it at the hospital anyway. Also start your breathing. Deep breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. You'll be using it during active labor.
