Hi there,

A lot of people are quite intimidated by the Rubik's Cube, and for good reason! Its been a constant source of frustration to millions for over 25 years. As it stands the Internet has partially alleviated this problem though and there are a ton of great resources out there that anyone can access.

There are a variety of approaches and systems to solving the cube, but I'll direct you to the most common, known as the "Vanilla Layer-by-Layer" system. It breaks the solution as a whole down into many substeps to make it easier for you to learn. After some practice you will find yourself amazing those around you!

Jasmine Lee offers a great beginners solution on her site outlining in detail (and easily understandable) the above mentioned system:

If you have any questions regarding the solution even feel free to email me: richy_jr_2000@yahoo.com \ I have solved the cube for five years now and I am consistently averaging under twenty seconds in competition =)

As a sidenote too, the solution included with the store bought cubes is quite possibly the worst aid in solving I have ever seen. Anyone else who is tempted to learn from this solution should just go to the above mentioned site =)

Additonal information can be found on www.speedcubing.com
This is literally the 'speedcubing' hub on the Internet. Check the links secton for more great solutions.

Take care and have fun solving!

Actually, yes, there is. Included with the purchase of any new cube (yes they still sell them) is a book on how to solve the cube. First, you have to solve a single side, making sure that the colors on the top row of the surrounding sides match each other. Then you have to solve the corners, through a series of up-down and left-right moves and lastly, re-align the rows. I believe there is also a website that describes it more fully. Perhaps www.rubiks.com. I cannot remember if that is the address, but it is close. Good luck.

I used the website below. The method on the site uses eight steps to solve the cube. It took me a few days to learn the notation, but now I can solve the cube in about three minutes. I hope this helps.
