Actually, the witch I married and lived with for ages was young and heartbreakingly beautiful, and hers were nice and warm and oh, so delightful. The phrase originally was "cold as a witch's kettle" because some folks assumed a witch could stir up trouble in an unheated kettle. I still have my darling witch's kettle - she passed on some time ago - and we had many a fine meal cooked up in that cast iron kettle - but we always heated it with wood or charcoal or on the gas or electric range...and when she stirred up trouble, it was always in bed, never in the kettle. Our children are all grown with kids of their own now...I miss my witch terribly.

Well it was this morning. It was 28 degrees here and I forgot to reset the heater to come on. It was below 50 in the house this morning. No wonder I was freezing.
