"Sommersby" with Jodie Foster and Richard Gere-- very similar to a French movie called "The Return of Martin Guerre." Both are good.

Sommersby--Richard Gere, and Jodie Foster--The soldier is also a better husband and human being than before he left. *SPOILER* He turns out to be a different man who met the original during the war and decided to take his place. They looks so alike they thought they might be brothers.
