There is not any one reason as to why any person is racist! It depends on many factors.

-How they were raised by their parents
-how they were trought right from wrong
-the culture and society they grew up it
-their education and knowlodge level
-are they just ignorant, or don't care
-abuse over their life time, and by whom?
-what influences they had, who was around them
-who was their role model?

Most of the people are not racist, but in moments of anger when they have a lapse in judgement and utter or say something racist, it is percieved as them being racist.

Give you an example...
White girl raped by a black guy... In anger/retaliation, there is racism agains the blacks, even though only one person from that race was at fault.

Black girl raped by a white guy... In anger/retaliation, there is racism against the whites, even though only one person from that race is at fault.

Racism does not only have to be against someone's skin color. i.e white, black, brown, yellow, blue, green, red, pink, or purple. It can be against hair color, fat or skinny people, tall or short, big head or small head, physicaly fit or couche potato, loud mouth, or shy and quiet.

Now remeber, racism only pops-up when something is going BAD! When everyhing is groovie and working like "clock work", no one is even caught up that this world is so diverse. But when things start going downhill, that is when the fingers start being pointed at each other and the blame is being shifted on someone else.

Racism is not against the law. Believe it or not everyone is a racist. Everyone thinks they are better than the person next to them. This is what makes this world so unique. Competition and the drive to be the best.
Even though everyone is a racist of some sort or another, only through education, by understanding that we each rely upon each other, can we over come our diferences and move forward together.

Yes, I'm sure parents influence a persons ideals but Society does as a whole but the general public thinks racism started with the Africans and it did not, it started with the Cave Men. I think the majority of people today are pretty tired of it and certainly there are exceptions to that but personally observing the people around me and my friends there is no racism and there are two foreigners, 4 blacks, 6 whites and we have been getting along for about 25 years now. Hopefully each generation does betters with this subject.

Sometimes they are influenced by their parents to hate or become racist. It's also by past experiences with a person of that race that led them to hatred. Sometimes, it's also because of PHYSICAL differences that lead them to racism.

You can call an american "WHITE" and call and africa-american "BLACK" or even call asians "SNOW-WHITES" as what i've heard but does the color of your skin have to do with liking a person? (Some of you might be answering yes and it's okay to answer freely)

Crimes are done everyday and racists believe it's the "other" who's doing the crime. They don't realize that ANYONE and EVERYONE has the free will to commit crimes ANYTIME and ANYWHERE. You can't say, "Oh a black man raped that girl! I know" and if you ask how that person knew they'll answer something like "Because they always rape women."

Isn't it disturbing that they say that to you? "since he's black he's bad." Is Rosa Parks bad? she stood up for herself because of racism and now she is a HERO!

Being born with skin is not a crime, I say to the racists to the world. You may be black, white or even snow white but that is not a reason to be hated, right? Support us and say racism is wrong! Past experiences may have happened but don't think ALL of the people you THINK are bad are not as bad as you think...

Usually it is environmental in nature. Either the people that someone associates with, or bad experiences that someone has with people. It is really not uncommon at all to be concerned about people who are different from you. People are not allowed to say how they feel and have a conversation about it. They get labeled racist and are forced to shut up and live with it. That isn't healthy and does the opposite of what is intended.

IGNORANCE is the mother of racism and discrimination.

Racists are generally people full of complexes, sometimes it's their parents, some others is the environment around them; in any case it's a SHAME.

Messed up parents would be the main reason

The second would be messed up people from a certain group or ethnicity that have screwed with them at some point in their lives.

Racism has been around for tens of thousands of years. The hippy decade of the 1960s will not turn around thousands of years of feelings just because they say you have to. It just doesn't work that way.

I think it's a little of both. It happens in all races, I guess the people are just narrow minded. It will never change, a pity though.
