I don't think that's quite the way it works. If the US really did want the oil in Iraq and went there just for that purpose, you would bet that by now the US would HAVE the oil in Iraq and the oil fields would have been cordoned off and all the oil diverted trough heavily guarded new pipelines to US tankers and it would have made world news and there would have been a huge uproar, especially from the French. However, there has been absolutely no Michael Moore type of outrages at such a thing, so if the world media has not been able to pick it up, especially the anti-American French, you can be certain it is not happening.

That has been said many times, usually implying some discredit to the US. But a continued supply of oil to the west is vital. Saddam, couldn't be trusted, and I am not so sure that some of the other supplier countries could be trusted, either. I think that you need to spell out what lies behind your question, and why there is a problem in the US wanting to ensure continued supplies.
We also need to remember, that the oil producing countries have a need to sell their oil, just as we in the west need to buy it.

I so wish this was the truth. We would not be paying over 2.00 a gallon for gasoline. Since the terrorists are continually destroying the lines and pumps, please tell me how they are getting this oil you are talking about? The business people going to this country are being killed according to the news. If you have an idea about getting the oil from the ground to here I think everyone would love to hear it.

They do want the oil. But there are 2 other reasons Bush took us in there.
1. He wanted to redeem his father for not taking Saddam out. He is too stupid to realize the reason his father didn't was because we needed Saddam to neutralize Iran, to tie them down.
2. He does want to spread his holier than thou Evangelical Christianity to the Mid-east. He and his brand of Christianity are scary.

The war isn't about the oil, and never was. It's always been far cheaper to buy it than it is to invade and occupy a country.

Iraq has always sold oil and as long as it lasts, always will. It will never be given to the U.S. for free and never will. In fact even oil mined in Texas is not given freely to U.S. government. Do you really think that by going to war and bringing democracy to Iraq will mean U.S.A. can help it's self to Iraqi oil?
Oil will soon be a redundant commodity and it is in Iraq's best interest to unload it's oil before this happens.
Iraq should be kissing U.S.A's *** as they are it's biggest customer.
I'm not American but this seems plain even to me.
