well it is rather tough to measure I imagine. The ants "brain" is actually just a collection of ganglia, and the largest collection of these nerve cells is called the brain, although it is not similar to our at all.

For College??? What school do you GO to?
An ant, as an insect, doesn't have a "brain" in the sense that I (and maybe you) do. The control system of an ant's nervous system is more like an electrical circuit with the switch always in the "on" position. In other words, all the beasties responses are purely automatic. (Hope this is what you were looking for, but just in case it's not, then I'd say that the size of an ant's brain would be about a size 8 wide.

An ant brain has about 250 000 brain cells. A human brain has 10,000 million so a colony of 40,000 ants has collectively the same size brain as a human.
Good luck at college!

As a couple of others pointed out the ganglion which is the collection of nerves inside an ants head cannot really be called a brain. So much of insects behaviour is in their genes, they also have a secondary ganglion in the abdomen. Male mantids have been observed to continue mating without their heads (even more enthusiastically - maybe just fewer inhibitions) so insects do not need their brains in the same way as humans. Some people may compare that behaviour to a headless chicken but its in fact completely different - the mantid wont even die. Sure it will starve or get picked off by a predator but it doesnt need its head to live.

So tempting to be sarcastic but I'll refrain.. At a guess, slighty smaller than its head but I would just search Google for it, some nutjob out there will have the answer on a website....
Ah, just found something.. Its about 250.000 cells where as a human has 10 million, give or take a few. That is excluding GW Bush, who has about 2 cells....
