Well, suicide notes are personal communications to loved ones, generally filled with apologies.

How about . . . instead of writing a suicide note, the prosective note-writer finds a therapist, friend, or minister to talk it over with. Having suffered from severe depression, I know what it's like to be in the black depths of misery, never believing life can improve. Life isn't meant to be smiles and sunshine all of the time. Life is an arduous battle between the environment and our bodies. Western civilization tries to sanitize and immortalize people so we don't fret about the inevitable. We warehouse the sick and dying so we don't have to see or care for them, whereas most other countries do for their ill and dying loved ones.

The people who are left behind are devastated but still move on . . . well, except the people who don't care. People who don't care often find amusement in passing or sigh sadly and insincerely about the suicide then move on with their lives. The only person who doesn't move on is the one who needs to most -- the person who wrote the note in the first place.

The note-writer feels things deeply; if this prospective note-writer considers that people need people who actually care about others' feelings, the prospective note-writer can take heart that s/he is vital to the mental health of the community. So many people don't care about anyone but themselves; someone who has sympathy and empathy is special, and people who listen to others' problems are always loved intensely by those who have no one else to talk to (which is pretty-much most of us).

A suicide not is usually an explanation for why you chose to take your life, an apology, and an expression of love to those you are leaving behind.

BUT you should not even be asking this question!!! If you are considering writing a suicide note you need to seek help and talk to someone. There is ALWAYS a way out, and no matter how bad things seem right now, they will get better. Talk to someone, anyone!

If you have no one you feel you can talk to, call a Suicide Hotline...
1-800-SUICIDE* or 1-800-784-2433*
1-800-273-TALK or 1-800-273-8255

Don't give up. There is ALWAYS help.
