Okay, I understand the point that you are trying to make. You need to understand that your gang is not the first. People base their opinions on gangs by what they have seen in the past...all the violence and drama.
The problems I have with gangs are the following:
1. give young people a false sense of family. Yea, I understand that your boys may be all you have, but when you have to do something bad to be a part of that family, its bribery (or do they do that anymore?)
2. guns... you said you dont go around shooting people, but I know you all have guns for your protection. Are all these guns registered? I know the answer to that one. Toting around guns from "off the street" is a crime in itself. Once a actual crime is committed, it takes taxpayers money to help the police sort through all the mayhem
3.violence. It really bothers me when i see one or two people get jumped by a large group of people. I know thats what you all do. YOu may call it self defense, but if a man cant get up and fight his own battles on his own, he is not a man at all

I think that most people have a fear of gangs because whenever you have a large number of people that think the same thoughts and feel very intensely about their beliefs there can be trouble. I do not believe that all gangs have the same violence to them. For example there are gangs of kids in the UK that have formed because they had to survive on their own with no adults. They run the streets and do what they have to do to survive. They are not necessarily dangerous but they do steal food and other things that they need. I think that gangs basically form as a means to survival from the world around. Most people are scared because they don't know what they are dealing with and it can be very intimidating when there is a large number of people that may or may not be out to harm you.

Perhaps you should consider yourself in a clique rather than a gang. When you use the word "gang", you are implying that you do involve yourself in the activities you listed. Maybe that's not fair, but that is the stereotype associated with the word.
You should be concentrating on what you can do to ensure a productive and lively future instead of labeling yourself now.

Gangs have gotten a bad name because of the ones who do drive by shootings, sale drugs, carry guns, take turf, rob stores, rape women, etc. Lets face it the only thing you ever hear about pertaining to gangs is the crimes they commit and the devastation they cause.

It's guilt by association...a lot of gangs are bad. And the saying "safety in numbers", also pertains to trouble. Gangs are more likely to make trouble than one person walking down the street.

Even if you're not the typical gang, you're still responding to and supporting a divided tribal culture. You are setting yourself as apart from society and everyone else, and helping prolong divisions between races and/or locations.
