if grad students are workers, they should be paid as workers are. if they are not, they should not be paid a single dime. since grad school usually lasts 5-6 yrs beyond a 4 yr undergrad, there is no way grad students can manage without pay. as such, the institution of grad school should be pretty much done away with; in about 20 years time, that would mean no univeristies/no professors. do you agree with this?

I am not sure I am following you, but I am finishing my Masters degree in two years and I am not going to school full-time. Some of my classes carried over into my masters degree. I am working full time and going to school half time. It was the same thing during my student teaching, I didn't get paid for it at all and still had to pay for the class. I was working outside of my student teaching. I am sure there are some colleges that hire teachers with Bachelors, but doing away with professors that have masters and doctorates may affect the schools accreditation. So, I would say keep the professors with their higher education degrees. If you are reffering as to the college paying grad students, no I do not agree with you. I understand that going for a graduate degree requires alot of discipline, but you also need to look at the long term affects of it. Can you manage without a job or can you manage a part time/full-time job while going to school?

Most of them work. A lot of them work at school and get tuition waived or discounted. There are also many more scholarships available for grad school students (since there are fewer takers) which helps them out. With Internet and virtual classrooms, it will be easier to get graduate degrees in 20 years.
