Think of mid files as "sheet music". It is not a recording of a song like mp3 or wav are. Rather it is a set of instructions that tell your computer how to play a song using the instruments build into your computer's midi card. As CD players do not have midi cards, they can not play midi files.
But there is a simple solution. Go to download.com and look for a free program called "mid2wav". It will take a midi file, play it on your computer, and record it as a wav file. You can then burn the wav file to an audio CD.

WinAmp has an output plugin that will turn MID files into WAV files which can be burnt to audio CD. Or do a search on "MIDI to WAV converter" - there are many out there that are shareware.

You can't directly. Most burner programs can convert directly from midi to cd audio.
I use jetAudio to convert midi. Many others can burn it.
