instead of a whole turkey go with a turkey breast or either a very small ham...one of the small spiral hams would be nice because you could freeze it and have sandwiches later

Turkey!!! It's way more fun to carve up a turkey than just slice a ham. Nothing makes a couple of rambunctious boys behave better than a mommy with a big knife! ( Just kidding)
Premade ham biscuits are great for breakfast on Christmas day when you won't have time for anything but a zap in the microwave.
Best wishes to you, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and may God bless your family.

Mexican Food! Our family breaks away from the traditional foods for Christmas. My mom makes Mexican food from scratch and we all love it. It's so much better than the traditional turkey or ham for Christmas! We have tamales, enchiladas, rice, beans and cornbread. (By the way, we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve and have a big dinner that evening) After the children open their gifts (only the children get gifts, because the older family members finally realized what Christmas was about!) we have a huge assortment of desserts. We wait for dessert, because our stomachs have to settle down from eating such a big dinner! We have to make room for more food! We have chocolate and lemon pie, cherry cheesecake, banana split cake and a huge assortment of cookies (all homemade!)! Now, can you beat that!

How about some Cornish game hens? They are just the right size for one person, so you can make 2 (usually around $6 for two). If you like ham, there are small hams you can buy, perhaps from one of those specialty ham stores IE: The Hamlet. OR you can make a Roast with veggies for you.
Hope your Christmas is great.

You might consider both turkey and ham. The leftovers will last for quite a time, and you and your sons can think of Christmas every time you gosh. Alternatively, a chicken would do for the bird, and you could still have quite good dressing with it, and the ham, well, that will always be good!

Start a new holiday tradition; work with the two boys to create a special holiday menu that makes sense to the three of you; why not a turkey or ham casserole with a fruit salad and try to find a vegetable that they like; have you ever tried a sweet potato casserole with brown sugar and pecan topping? it's more like dessert than vegetable;

Why not have both, they are a delicious combination, and you can do it without going to great expense ,ask your butcher for a slipper of ham it is taken off the front of the gammon its about 3lb in weight and is delicious also buy a crown of turkey this is just the breast on its own you have absolutely no waste and though slightly expensive it is well worth it .

Make your own traditions! Come up with a great meal of everyone's favorites...so what if you eat pizza, macaroni and cheese, and chicken kiev in the same meal! Who made the rule that we have to eat turkey or ham? My family makes oyster stew and pizza casserole dish every Christmas eve. Your boys won't remember every Christmas they ate Turkey, but they will remember the one they got to spread NERDs on their mashed potatoes...who cares what you eat as long as you have fun together!

Tesco's do a very nice duck meal but it isn't cheap. I only know because it was reduced one day. I would suggest looking around the stores to see what the alternatives are. Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury's I think are the best quality. Hope you all have a happy Christmas :-)

Do both the turkey and ham, just get smaller ones, do lots of roast spuds and mashed ones, pigs in blankets and seasoning, some Yorkshire puds and gravy and do it like a buffet so they can help themselves, have a great Christmas.
