I've equated this common name with the Norfolk Island Pine, those little trees sold in stores now as living Christmas trees. They are so named because the branches occur in wagon wheel fashion instead of alternately (usually a year's growth), so that monkeys apparently had difficulty moving from one branch to another. I had one in a pot and finally had to get rid of it because it got so big it hit the ceiling. And you can't prune the leader or it ruins the shape. I'm sure others may dispute the name because common names vary depending on your location. Hope this answers your question.
