It is 4 years old more or less,...will any brand or type work?
I plan on getting the cheapest one I find (which, yes I know is stupid, but...)

Newegg.com has one for $97.99. It is a Western Digital 120GB. It should work with yours even if you have USB 1.1

Here is the link:

I hope this helps.

The CPi series only has USB 1.1 ports build into it. While they will run a USB drive, it will be very slow. Other than file storage, you will not be able to use the drive for anothing. Will not be able to run programs from it, etc. Will work for storage (which is all most people want), but will be slow.

You can purchase a USB 2.0 card (around $50) that will let you run the drive at full speed. It would plug into the one and only PC card slot on the unit. (Assuming you are not using that slot for a network or wireless card). If you purchase such a card, you may also want to add a USB 2.0 hub to plug into the card to give you additional slots so you can run more than one USB device at the same time. (You can also replace your network or wireless PC card with a USB one if needed).

When purchasing the USB drive, make sure that it uses a power plug that goes into the wall. Some use a second USB cable to power the drive. Since your laptop as only one USB port, you would have nowhere to plug in the second cable.

Beyond that, any brand will work...

Yes!!!!!!!!! I will list you some, just give me a moment...

As long as your Laptop has USB ports free on it, you can use almost any external drive.

IT IS BEST to purchase these items ONLINE, from sources such as
http://www.newegg.com
http://www.tigerdirect.com

Generally speaking, local stores like WALMART and BEST BUY do not SPECIALIZE in specifically computer items, so the computer items that they do have WILL BE OF HIGHER PRICE, also they know everyone SHOPS there...

Itll be cheaper to purchase from the web.

As long as you are running XP with sp2 you should not have issues. I personally would go with a 3.5" drive instead of a 2.5" or 1.8" drive, and has an ethernet port for networking if you can afford it.

you want to position in the VIDEO DRivers from DELL. Its also a possibility that the deploy did not bypass one hundred% and the video setup change into incomplete. bypass to the Dell internet web site and procure the drivers. .

go to best buy tell them what you need and they will have it, as for all of your computer needs i would strongly suggest that best buy be your choice, it,s a very good alternative from going to the computer out let, they will take you for a loop, as far as selling you something you really dont need, it christmas time you know.
