Imagine working around, chasing down, investigating and having to arrest drug dealers, drug users, men who beat their wive's or kids, mothers who beat the kid and drunks day and night. Toss in having people like JD call them Fuc*ken A$$holes or xikoni thinking that lack intelligent or they would have gone to college and the are frustrated A$$holes.

Putting up with those types of people every day would reinforce my believe that I have handled my life far better than most of them and it might come across as the type of attitude you mention. I have run into 1 or 2 "cops with attitude" myself. But sinnce I know my rights, havn't done anything wrong and have a friend on the police commission in the city I live in...I just answer is questions and never get excited.

By the way bikini, my undergraduate degree in in Criminology and I had planned to become a cop. But I decided to accept a commission as an Army officer later completing 2 master's degrees. Have 3 friends that went through high school and college with. All the are police officers or sheriffs in San Diego. So I suggest that you are the ignorant one by assume cops lack intelligence...you have no way to discern if the cop you are dealing with went to college or not.

And JD...why to I get the impression that you have had many run ins with the police and they are always wrong and you are just being hassled? I have had to deal with young soldiers that have that same "everyone in authority is..." as you wrote, a Fuc*ing AS$hole.

You were doing good till you threw in the "hard job blahhh bla bla" trust me it is ALL COPS!!! I have a full time & part time job. I am the only one on the part time job who is not a cop or ex cop. While they are very funny & vulgar (makes the day go by faster cuz fun to work with) they are also very insecure people. The thing to remember is the job. People will say how hard and dangerous a job it is. BUT it is not a lottery where they get picked to do the job, they opted to do it. With that said, who are they who would WANT to do this job? ...

People who want to be cops by their very nature are bullies or people who get picked on by bullies. They are gangbangers but their colors are blue & gang name is "da police". Most will have weights in their basement that they do not lift (just got them thinkig a bigger body would make up for their insecurities). They see no fault in anything they do, just in everyone else. However no matter how low their IQ, the brain is not stupid so in the back of their minds they know they are riddled with flaws. So they get a badge and try to pretend they are better. Pretending does not work so their bully ways come through. This they hate so turn to boze, lose their wifes and families which makes them even bigger jerks. That is why the attitude.

Well you have to be tough to be a cop. And there are so many who don't respect them, which is just plain wrong. They are the ones defending our streets and cities.
I think some of them get hardened by what they see every day. It's pretty grisly and you really see everything, every side of humanity. Murderers, drug dealers, all kinds of really bad thugs. And then the senseless, horrible crimes people commit. I don't know how cops can deal with all that and stay sane!
The job requires an extremely tough person. cops have to have a tough, and yes, almost mean attitude.

Police officers have a job, like members in the military, where they do not know what will happen to them in the next minute. Given this stressful setting, they have the formidable task of enforcing the law. So at times, it is reasonable and human for them to act "superior" while carrying out their duties.
The officer(s) you have encountered may have just had a difficult time or day. The nature of their work must be considered and we must understand the seriousness of their actions before coming to our own conclusions.

It's a defense mechanism.
Put yourself in their place. All day long they deal with mostly criminal types with bad attitudes. Plus they have long hours so their family and social life is certainly not high on the priority.
So they sleep and eat and deal with creeps all day long and they get discouraged and sad. Its all about the enviroment plus, as you see from some of the answers here, they deal with those types daily.
If you dealt with the same at your work, you think you could live your life with an upbeat motivated happy attitude?

Yes, they can be a bit abrasive, but I think it's the nature of their job. When you deal with criminals all day, it tends to make you jaded. They look at everyone as a potential criminal for their own safety. Once they figure out you're one of the good guys, they're usually pretty reasonable unless they've got some underlying character flaws like being racist or sexist.

Sure, many are like that. It can't be easy rubbing shoulders with the slime of humankind, then be prepared to face kind, wholesome citizens. There's is the toughest job, I'm sure not cut out for it.

Most of them have certain attitude. Why?, everybody they handles are considered criminals. They have to give this kind of attitude to check the person if he can be intimidated and confess his crime.
