If a woman of blood type A has a child of blood type O, the father may belong to:

1. Blood type A, AB, or O, but not B

2. Blood type O only

3. blood type A or B only

4. Blood type A,B, or O, but not AB

5. Any blood type other than A

I know O is recessive, but when I did a punett square , I couldn't get the results to match any of the answers provided. Is it #4? Thanks!

The parents must both have passed O alleles to the kid or he wouldn't be type O. Therefore one of the father's alleles must be O. The other may be A, B or O. So he could be AO, like the mother, expressed as type A. Or he could be BO, expressed as type B, or he could be OO like the kid. He can't be AB because then he wouldn't have an O allele to pass on.

So 4 is correct.

yeah i think its number 4. Basically the mother is definetly AO (which is A), so the father can either be OO (type O), AO (type A) or BO (type B).

so he's either A, B or o. He can't be AB otherwise the child would be A or AB.

Hope this answer doesn't cause any problems

The answer is 4

a woman of type A (phenotype) has a genotype of AO (the O being recessive isn't expressed) if she gave birth to an A type baby.

A man can have type

Phenotype ....Genotype

A .......................AO
B .......................BO
O........................OO

Since he would have had to donated the O Allele.
