The book is set in India, I'm not sure the exact year, but it was a while ago. They didn't treat women very well back then, but they had a woman Prime Minister. How did that happen? Did the people vote for her? If they didn't think much of women, why would they want one for their leader?

Was there really a female Prime Minister or was that just made up in the book?

Men are bums in India and if it was not for the women here there would be no India. Men treat women terribly and the women love it. Everyone is so brain washed here by their religion.
Prime Minister.... Power and money ..... and Indira Gandhi had both.

YES!! there was a female leader in INDIA! Her name was Indira Gandhi! She was Jawaharlal Nehru (first prime minister of India)'s daughter. Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister of India, 1966-77 and 1980-84. She was very intelligent and grown in the house of politics. She knew exactly how to tackle the problem of country. She was the one of the toughest and smartest Politician I have seen till date!!

About Indians treating women bad. The fact was true. They used to treat women very bad like ages ago!! Rite now it does exist in somepart of rural area & some part of urban areas but percentage wise far less than what it use to be. Most commonly in rural areas of India where the women r not educated. As per whole world knows women can compete men in every field and historically itz a proven point that women has been more successful in life than man if the chance is given. It has proven well in India. Now more women r having career in India than ever & treated well or equally. People watch media like TV which gives wrong ideas about India! If you really want to learn about India you really need to visit India. Itz a country of rich culture. Men do respect women for what they r and do take opinion of women. There r some men who still think women r less but hey !! look around!! where you come from also there are people who dont wanna give a chance to women!!!!

I agree 100% with madhu in the short time India has been a country (about 50 years) women are becoming more and more equal than ever before and are walking in step with men. already most girls are going to college (the ones that can afford it allways do) and working in the same jobs as men. and yes we did have an woman prime minister Indira Gandhi and yes she was brilliant. we had another woman in power as well she is Sonia Gandhi and she is still in politics. if you look at America which is about 400 yrs old now there still isn't a woman president yet. also Indira Gandhi was our 3rd prime minister, america is on it's 43 president. in addition women didn't gain equal rights till the 50s in america. what it took America more than 300 yrs to do, India is already doing and succeeding.

and ofcouse we voted for her she was the daughter of one of most decorated leaders and soon became one of them. she was helping india since age 12 (read about monkey brigade) and she was open minded enough to marry some one of opposing religion. as for that time's views on women it still was only the uneducated people who thought that way, with most others when she proved herself first, they stopped thinking of her as a 'woman' but as a leader like every other prime minister

I think at that time there was too much disparity among women, On one side some women who were illeterate were treated badly & who was too intelligent was so intelligent that she was more intelligent than the men, so she was elected at that time, it was not that she had taken the charge in a wrong manner.
