The Nintendo DS uses Nintendo WiFi Connection for online or ad hoc multiplayer (with nintendo DSes nearby) gaming.

For WiFi on the internet you need to be within range of a wireless network. You can use a DS's WiFi connection at most McDonalds locations across the country without set-up. If you want to play it at home, in a WiFi game, go to WiFi (Or multiplayer if you don't see WiFi but know it's a WiFi game), and tap Configure WiFi or WiFi Settings. Then, follow the directions to configure it.

For ad-hoc, choose multiplayer in a multiplayer game, and tap create or join (In most games). If you're playing a game like Nintendogs, tap "go out" and then tap "bark mode"

In music terms it means Wide Fidelty - the seperation of left and right channels so that you can hear different instruments or sections. Later just called stereo. Have moved from that 2 channel separation to 5 and even 7 distinct sound speaker sources.

In phone terms it means you don't have to find a "hot spot" such as your Starbucks coffee shop to hook up to the internet with your phone or laptop computer. Those are very short range signals. With wifi you can go to the park and still pick up the internet. There are now cities in the US that have broadcast the wifi signal and anyone in the city at any location has internet connection.
