anyone can get a job but a career you usually have to study for or work hard at obtaining. you can also say a job is just a job but a career is a lifetime.

Think of a job as the position you hold currently. Think of a career as all of the jobs you have held, hold now and will hold in the future.
People may have careers in any field of endeavor. They may work for someone, they may be self-employed, or they may own a business and employ many other people. Many people think of professional jobs when the word "career" comes up, but I think that is too narrow a definition. Being a plumber, house painter, electrician, and carpenter are certainly careers just as much as teacher, doctor, lawyer, and accountant. Being a solo musician or a member of a band is clearly a career. Being an author or a sculptor, or a painter or a photographer are careers. People have careers in insurance and retail and public relations and politics. They may do many different jobs within those fields, but choose to stick within one industry. Others, like accountants, will work in accounting for their whole career, but work in many different industries over the years.

The main difference between the two seems to be a combination of aspiration & desire. We don't necessarily aspire to or desire a job. But a career typically involves some sort of training, which means an investment of time and/or money and therefore is something that we aspire to do and desire to have.

As I see it, a job is what you do to pay the rent, credit card, car, etc that does not necessarily require to study for that. You learn it by experience, bringing some basic skills, of course. Your career is what you study for and if you are lucky you like it and live out of it. That can be from secretary to a doctor.
