Keep koi with koi, and very little else.
You might be able to keep some larger goldfish with them (not the facy oranda types, think more like a Sarassa or Shubunkin or something). Certain catfish can work out alright- catch a bullhead or madtom if you live somewhere they are native, just make sure the koi are longer than the catfish; same with medium sized sunfish. Just be careful, collection laws vary state-to-state, so it might not be legal to catch and take home live fish.

he's right. Keep koi with koi, or maybe large goldfish, but the koi will still end up being double the size of the goldfish, so it's possible that if your koi are less than sweet little things, your goldfish might disappear (I've heard of it, though it's not extremely common). Also, keep in mind, that it is possible for goldfish to carry diseases that koi catch, so if you have some valuable koi, I would not recommend putting anything in there with them because of that. A quarantine tank or pond can also be a good idea. If you put the new fish in there, separate from your current stock for a couple months, you can make sure none of them are sick, treat for any parasites etc.
