Most of the HBCUs are in the Southeast. This is probably due to the fact that HBCUs were more necessary in places where there was more segregation. The following links list them. It doesn't look like there is much in California.

it is my understanding that the westernmost HBCU is Langston University in Oklahoma. The rest are east of that, like in atlanta, memphis, washington DC. It is my understanding that there are no historically black colleges in california.
