I'm not sure about hunting guns, but think the ban is on guns, perioid. But I do think in some cases it is very unfair. There are many offences that are designated "felonies" that absolutely do no involve having ever caused anybody physical harm, either with a gun or any other device. But that person is forever barred from owning a handgun for just plain self defence. I think the punishment should fit the crime, and if your felony hasn't involved the use of a gun or other weapon against another person, I don't believe you should be prevented from having a means of self defence like any other person. I know I feel a lot more secure having one or two in the house.

In most cases the ban is forever unless of course the person was diagnosed as mentally ill, then he may have a chance of getting a gun and going hunting.
