If my dad is unemployed, and my mom makes about $85,000 a year before taxes, and I go to a Private University that costs 40-45 k a year, how much of that cost can I cover in federal aid, school aid, scholarships and grants? I really would like to go to a Private school since I never have, and I don't want to bury myself in debt with loans in the process.

Also, is this a good list?

U. of Notre Dame
U. of Georgia
Wake Forest U.
Villanova U.
U. of Mary Washington
American U.
Catholic U. of America

I was considering the U. of Cincinatti and Azusa-Pacific U. too, but they weren't on the common app, so it's too much paperwork.

Any help would be great, thanks!

What? Delta, I meant that assuming next school year I go to a school that costs that much. I go to a crummy public school now.

And I have a 3.301 unweighted and an 1830 on the SAT.

I can only get scholarships based on need from the schools. How can guidance help with that?

First of all, we established that you're lazy and you want hand outs. I guess you didn't apply for scholarships based on need which you could have done through your guidance office because that was too much paperwork. Look up Pell grants below - I even did that for you. Hate for you to extend yourself by doing some leg work on your own. Go to a state school because you'll come out of Notre Dame or whatever with $200,000 in debt.

Your Guidance Office will have links or a terminal that does searches for available money through organizations such as VFW (your father a Vet?), religious and corporate sites. Get off your a-- and start helping yourself. Call the college admissions offices and ask. Do something!! I wouldn't hire you on a bet.

I think you are in a tough spot. You Mom makes enough money that you probably won't qualify unless you have many sibs. If I were you I would adjust my ambitions and look at good smaller private schools. These school have more scholarships that might be covered at your grades and SAT level.

first off kid, do you have the grades to get into those schools? second.....you said you want to go to a private school because you never had.....but you stated previously that you already go to a private school that costs 45k a year.

if your parents are paying that much for your high school.....why dont they just pay for college as well.....the tuition at any of those schools is about the same price if not cheaper than the school you pay to attend now.
