Last night I woke up when my plastic washing bag was making a rustling sound, a little while after it happened again. I thought I could see the siloette of a person but then it was the middle of the night and I have heard loads of ghost stories lately. Do you think it is a ghost or is it in my mind? My housemate has said he room sometimes smells like someones just lit up a cig, even though none of us smoke inside...

I have wooden floorboards, so wouldn't I have heard the feet/claws if it was a mouse...?

The bag was kind of close to the radiator...maybe 5 inches away.

I could only see the side of the figure, I couldn't make out any features and when I stared it was less visible.

Chances are it probably wasn't. There are many reasons for these things, most likely was a mouse, you were probably tired, so imagined the shape of a person and your housemate may have mistaken another smell for smoke.
Nobody can tell you it definitely wasn't though, or some kind of weird psychic thing going on.
Don't forget, there is alot more we can't explain than stuff we can!

It's a possiblility. Watch Ghost Hunters on SctFi and you'll find out that sudden smells of things that are not around is a sign of a ghost. I wouldn't worry about it. You may have a ghost, but most don't hurt people...it may just want to get your attention to let you know you're not alone. It could also be a relative letting you know that loved ones are around you. Next time you hear the bag, say something...even if it is "good night."
It may sound odd, but you are not alone. I have woken up many times with spirits watching me or my husband. Only once was it a "bad" spirit, but I was able to get it out of the house. Remember that angels and loved ones that have passed over are always around us. No matter what.

Anything is possible, then again Ive herd the saying "somethings have to be believed to be seen", I believe, and ive had some experiences!
Ok, so if you are a true beliver in ghosts and the paranormal, people will say either that you would've been tired, or your window was open. Yet if you didnt hear anyone come in or a draft from any window, my answer would be yes! ...

well thats a 50/50
but wooden floor boards could be the key here
many strainge smells actually come from out side
if there are floor boards in the property then these smells can travel through them and seem like it's in the same room as you.
the siloette?
could you make anything out of it?
i.e. was it a man or woman, what sort of clothes they were wearing,what colour they were dressed in/hair or anything like this
if so you may have seen one.
i have seen ghosts in the passed but only of animals not people.
it can be frieghtening at first but they can't harm you
just don't jump until you possible see some thing else
then get a vicar/preist in the bless your home if it gets really bad

It could be. Although then again, you don't have mice do you? Only reason I ask is because when I was a student we used to hear random noises like bangs and rustling in the middle of the night and then we found out that we had mice!

It could have been the air/ heat from the radiator causing the bag to move, thus causing the rustling. Hope you find out the cause xx

As you say youve heard/read a lot of ghost stories lately iy may well just have been your mind playing tricks on you. wait and seefit happens again or try setting up a trigger object.

It's hard to say it could be both, watch to see if it happens again, you may feel silly but call out to it and ask them to show themselves, it may just the wind, or a draught, smoke is something that is common with spirits, so you never know, but don't be afraid

Ghost do NOT exist,you had them planted in your mind be for hand
and the imagination certainly plays tricks. As for the cig smoke
this can permeate through floor boards and walls quite easily
so sleep soundly and forget about none existing beings

Hearing the stories may have opened your mind to the possibilty of spirits. I think that it is entirely possible that you saw a spirit. It has happened to me a few times in my life and it always freaks me out a bit.
