If you consider a 10 to 14 foot long cat that weighs in at 600 to 900 pounds compact - then sure, they're compact. Could one kill a bear? Depends on the bear. A full grown Polar bear stands 12 - 16 feet tall and can weigh 2000 pounds. They kill sealions with a single swipe from one paw. A black bear can weigh 500 - 600 lbs and is less likely to survive an attack from a tiger. Just to be clear though, a tiger kills with its hind feet while it holds on to its prey with its jaws and forepaws. Much like a house cat tears up a newspaper.

Yes the tigers are but it also depend on their age, a tiger age between 8 mnths to 13 mnths is not that much strong as compare to a tiger at the age of 20mnths ....
