it was a Republican president, a Republican administration, a Republican Senate, a Republican House and a Republican government that started and lost the war in Iraq. Can't blame the Democrats for this one.

007: I think you are giving Democrats way too much credit. Who do you think divided the country anyway? You may not need to look farther than Karl Rove, Bush et al.

Bryan: None of our strategic options are good. The fact is whether Bush listens to the Baker Commission or not, its just a matter of time before we admit imposing a democracy on Iraq was not a realistic goal. We may end up with 2 or 3 autonomous regions in the end. Its not a defeatist attitude to know a no win scenereo when confronted with one. Patriotism may be NOT embarking on reckless wars of choice for bogus reasons. As far as being in this together is concerned, I have been opposed to this war before it ever happened. Its just another Vietnam.

Tommy, I would say it is the eneptitide of the Bush Administration that leads to perceptions of failure.
Can you point to anything that is going right ?
The fact we are argueing about whether this is a civil war now ought to be a major concern.
Iraq was easy to get into..........

Cora : I truely believe this war IS lost. Even the generals are saying we no longer have control of events there and things are moving sideways.
I wonder if the US is not indirectly causing things to escallate just by its occupation.

That is true, however they will blame the Democrats because whatever happens next will be under a Democratic congress.
That's one thing about the Republicans, they know how to use everything (good or bad) to their advantage. Sneaky bastages.

The major problem with your post is that nothing has been lost yet. The last time I looked we were still actively engaged in Iraq and the outcome was still unclear. I do not know why some people are so invested in this defeatist attitude. I understand that many do not like the war and also do not like the administration, but are you so disenchanted that you are actually rooting for your own country to be defeated? Is that what passes for patriotism on the Democrat side? Further while it is true that the Republicans are in power no war is ever purely Republican or Democrat. It is an American war and whether you choose to believe it or not we are all in this together. In short, we will either win together, or we will lose together, but the consequences of our actions will effect us all, no matter what our particular political leanings might be.

Senate voted 77-23 to authorize the attack and the House approved an identical resolution, 296-133. So why don't the Democrats that voted for the resolution take any heat for the war in Iraq? It's always Bush and the Republicans getting bashed.

IF (and that's a big if) I accepted your premise, I would say that political correctness at the hands of the media lost Iraq. The military has not been "allowed" to prosecute this war to the fullest extent possible. The military leaders are so afraid of how the media covers battles/fights that they hold themselves back from going after the terrorists with everything they got...no matter where they are. And the media covers the terrorists so compassionately that these two factors together embolden the enemy to keep on the pressure, where they otherwise would either be captured or put down their arms and go home.

No one lost Iraq, its right where it has always been in turmoil. The Republicans did the best they could under the circumstances. The war in Iraq HAS saved thousands from murder Saddam was kill hundreds on a daily bases I think that was reason enough to attack him. So before you start blaming people for trying to give others a chance at the freedoms you where born with take into consideration that when this conflict is settled the world will be better because of it.

Cutting and running is better than staying and praying. The only people who should be in Iraq are Iraqi`s. Bush trying to bullshite the rest of the world into thinking Saddam had the capability to land a big nasty WMD on your front lawn from 7000 + f*cking miles away is frankly absurd. Illegal war, period.

If the war is lost, which it is not!!, it is the result of the news media.
The media is not giving the American public the true picture of what is happening in the world.

And every democrat but 1 standing up on TV and giving support to the ENEMY. The democratic hate machine is responsible for this fiasco. A world that sees a united America will know they cannot win, however a world that sees the left coward machine knows that all they have to do is wait on the Democrats, the Savior of tyranny.

Wrong on all accounts. Here is why.
Our great military has the wisdom and power to level that whole country in probably a week. What they are trying to do is precision targeting and trying to win the minds as well as the battles. We are trying to not kill civilians or level cities.
All of this is very hard to do. Its not a political thing... Its a case of logistics.
