there are only 8 planets in the solar system. There are several minor planets that are now being called dwarf planets. I believe that most of these planets just have a number for a name. Pluto was recently downgraded so a dwarf planet so that we would not have to deal with adding all the others to planetary status

As you probably eared there are only eight planets in our Solar System, which mean than they gravitate around our sun, that we actually call it Sun!. These planets are called Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Pluto was the ninth planet, but it was recently down sized into a different category, more like a big asteroid. About our Galaxy, called the Milky Way, it probably has more planets an asteroids than grains of sand in the Sahara Desert (north of African Continent) Hope I've answer you question!

There are billions in our galaxy - the Milky Way. In our solar system there were 9 but now down to 8. Astronomers downgraded Pluto from a plant to a dwarf planet.
