Do you want literal or figurative? To me, old age is when my physical body is a burden- I can't count on it anymore- and I'm tired of life... that's not all of it, of course (that could be said of many people with physical handicaps, for instance). Old age for me will begin when I feel old. My grandfather is 92 and looks old- but he's incredibly active still. Another person I know is 55 but is OLD... I guess that's because of poor health and a hard life that have simply worn her out... and so, she's old. (She doesn't wear purple, either.)

Old age is a state of mind that begins when you feel too tired to do the things you used to enjoy or you do them anyway and find that they're not as much fun or silly. It can begin at any age depending on the person.

Old age is always about 10 to 15 years older than whatever age you happen to be at the time. LOL
At least it's that way for me! I remember thinking people in their 30's were OLD. By the time I got there my thoughts changed to people in their 40's.

I guess it all depends on where you are on the time line.

I think old age being just a state of mind is bullshit, I'd say about 40, as that's when big changes start to occur in both men and women.

till now mainly two theories suggest as to how we grow old.
1.it says that our body cells work and get exhausted over time.slowly they wear and tear themselves and like a old used machine their efficiency decreases and finally when all ceels conjure up to failed work we die a natural death.

2.it says that all our cells have a fixed lifetime and when it nears its end our cells slow down.this theory made scientists think that maybe someday they'll be able to locate the time watch in cells and reset it so that an old human can start life all over again!

I think old age is setting in once you become a slave to maintaining the status quo in your life and your passions take a back seat to it.
