This works absolute wonders: Get a job at a place where you have to deal with people (a checkout is perfect for this). Not only will you get paid but over time you'll learn more about people, their behaviour (good and bad) and how to become more sociable.
Cheers!

Without the use of medicine or alcohol. Being shy has many undervalued benefits and charms. I agree- at times its necessary to be sociable- it takes practice. Put yourself in situations and observe others that you feel are sociable in a positive and effective way. Try and mimic thier behavior and attitude. Practice, you've got absolutely nothing to lose.

If you are a natural person you should try cognitive behavioral therapy. It was the only thing that has helped me with my horrible health anxiety. Read here https://tr.im/Bjtvh
Your thinking determines your quality of life. Your thinking is what causes you these feelings:
Anxious, fearful, stressed or depressed
Constantly worried, or angry about something that is happening in your life
Struggling to overcome obsessive and negative thoughts.
If you change your thinking, you will change your life. This is the basic idea behind CBT for anxiety. The Cognitive part is where you learn nee methods and ways to change your same old habits and thinking patterns. If you keep thinking and expecting the worst – You will continue to suffer.

I was painfully shy when I was a child and I'm still quite shy today. I found that talking to people who were serving me at the supermarket or in shops helped me become more social. Even asking them how their day has been or holding a simple conversation. Like I said I'm still rather shy but I'm no where near as shy as I used to be.

I decided to stop caring about what other people think. I employed a lot of simple honesty in my conversations, and stopped worrying about how what I said made me look.
It turned out people think I'm pretty funny and interesting. Who knew?
But I'm still shy...I just hide it better now.

FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT!!
I used to be incredibly shy and self-concious. I absolutely couldnt stand myself and drove myself crazy.
Then I realized a great thing, I have the power to change me! If I dont like somthing about myself, I can change it! It may not be easy, but I have that Power. Once I realized this, I took the time to think about the personality that I would like to be and portray. Then I started acting the part. And I mean ACTING! No, it was not easy, I felt very uncomfortable and afraid alot. I was forcing myself to go outside of my own comfort zone. No pain no gain. I totally faked, or acted like the person I wanted to be, and before I knew it, one day I realized that I became that person. Halleluja it worked!!!
Good luck. I know its scary and hard, but its worth it! You can do it!

Just be around somebody who's jolly and vocal. Pretty soon their jolliness will rub off to you and you be surprised that you are mingling with others and having fun.
