I have been working on a research paper for college about the effects of popular culture on societies. I have tons of evidence that shows the negative side of pop culture, but I'm having a hard time finding information of the positive aspects of it, do you think pop culture even has positive aspects in society?

Very intersesting question. I refer you to Wendy Griswold. She's considered one of the top researchers in the field of culture. While she might not come right out and discuss popular culture, you will be able to use her theory to discuss positive aspects of popular culture.

also, look in the sociology of sport. There you will most likely find articles that discuss how popular culture (in the form of sport) bring strangers together and form camraderie. From here you will undoubtly move to Durkheim's notions of collective effervescence.

Good luck!

typically, very little good in my opinion.

If anything, I would say that it perhaps help to introduce certain issues into are society on occasion, and that can lead to an evolution in mindset, and an openness to new things... Although, it can also have the opposite effect depending on what it is.

Pop culture is also important in the way it influences advertising, which if your inthe buisness world is a good thing, if you are able to take advantage of it.

So pop culture and pop culture icons can be an effective tool to address issues, or communicate important things, however, as you stated, there are also a lot of negative things associated with it as well.
