I mean, why is it all based on deception and lies? It seems like the most corrupt people are always the most 'succesful' in parliament.

Why is there no room for honesty and integrity in politics?

Because honest people are not allowed to move forward in politics. Politicians do not want honest people to advance in their party could you imagine the trouble they would give them.
Politics is largely corrupt though they do think mostly about the good of the country and it's citizens in the way of protection and service but openess and honesty will never prevail in a human government.

In order to win a political campaign you need cash. The people with the cash are corporations that will only give you cash if you promise to support their agenda. It is a fine line to walk and very easy to become a liar and a cheat. You have to do what you said to the people who gave you the money to run, or come re election time they wont give you more money to run.
I am sure alot of politicians start out with the best of intentions but it doesnt end that way. You have to be able to finance your own campaign to remain un corrupt or be a saint and for most that is just not possible.

You don't HAVE to lie and cheat to get somewhere in Politics. It is impossible to understand Politics as a business unless you have experienced it firsthand. The fact is that it is very difficult for politicians to do everything they say they are going to do to begin with because they not only have to try and change what already exists, but they have to react to a number of crises and on top of that try to bring in NEW ideas!

You clearly don't understand what Politics is all about.

Honesty does not pay in any walk of life.

The job you have now, did you tell a couple of wee white lies or omit ac ouple of relevant details on your CV or at interview?

Most people tell lies and I can see why. Politicians need to protect uneducated and misinformed people.

Some take the lies to extremes however a lie is a lie.

In my country they say that politics is a whore, who you cannot trust. Maybe the intention of a politician is very good and a dream to sort out the world, when they are young and inexperienced. However when they rule they get greedy of money (corrupt), fame and force and then it is to late to dream again.

In America it is because of the influence of conservative Christians on the political system. They are pathological liars and hypocrites who hate America and wish to destroy its Constitution.

The Bush administration tried to exploit them for votes. However, Bush is even stupider than they are and he inadvertently let too many through the gate.

They are a greater threat to freedom in America than any foreign terrorists. On 9/11, Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson both said that it was the Christian God who brought down the Trade Towers and killed thousands of people.

And it was their religiously-based lust for blood that supported the Bush administration's immoral and illegal invasion of Iraq.

For a start it depends on what country you are referring to.

I think that the party system we have in the UK leads to areas of moral ambiguity. There might be times when you disagree strongly with your party's view on a particular issue, but you are forced to vote for it by the party whip.

But that aside, I know many politicians who are both honest, hardworking and highly moral people. Perhaps you mainly tend to hear about the others.

Because if a politician told you the truth on what he was intending to do he would not get a vote and would possibly end up in prison for plotting a heist and treason

Blame the voters if you want a realistic answer.
People vote for their "Liar and Cheat", who promises to carry out their vision of the perfect country.
But it is the people who make the country and all politicians who promise the Goverment is going to do it for you are..........
