to an extent-yes. Everyone ( even you) are affected by popular culture. I think the bigger question is.
Have commercials and ads brainwashed everyone? and- are they one in the same?

I don't know if I'd use the term brainwashed. That sounds a bit severe. However, pop culture has a tremendous effect on the people. Not all the people, but a great many of them. Why do you ask?

Yes, I think so. In TV soaps people always behave in a confrontational way to each other and younger generation copy this behaviour, thinking that they can get away with any hurtful, insulting thing they say to their friends and family. In reality, human relationship does not work that way. Once the damage is done, it is not always easy to reverse it. Popular culture is also misleading us to believe that we need to consume everything in large quantities to be happy --- drink, food, clothes, sex... Actually we don't. When you get too much of something junky (too much booze, too much junk food, too many tacky clothes, promiscuity...), you get a very jaded appetite and you would feel awful.

Not everyone ,but many .We are taught at an early age to think this way and act that way and believe this faith or that faith,etc.We need to open hour minds and stop believing other people without questioning what makes sense and what does not

Sadly some people don't have their own definition so they need someone to tell them how to live.
