Florida's last championship came via a rematch 1996 they lost to Florida st the last game of the season.Florida won that game and the national championship with a 11-1 record. Ohio st and Arizona st also had 11-1 records and wound up 3rd and 4th.

I think the voters were looking back to the sec confrence not getting a title shot with auburn a few years back, so they are trying to make things fair for each confrence, regardless of the historical significance involved with florida.

It is true that Michigan had it's chance to play OSU and they lost. I think it is fair to put Florida in the title game if they think they are the 2nd best team. I think they voted Florida in to avoid a rematch, which as you pointed out is bologna. When the smoke clears if OSU is still undefeated they have a legitimate claim to the national title. But if Michigan beats USC as well they have a legitimate gripe about not getting the chance to play in that game.
