Why does most teams send their left handers in as openers?

Agreed Marke, but if you have 2 exellent right hander's & and a very good left hander, would you put your VG left hander in to open with a Exe right hander, to try and knock the bowler off rythem? Surley you have an exellent oppurtunity to score more runs if the bowler cannot get into rythem and bowl to full or close to potential?

Make no mistake the opening batsman that are lefthanded are good. Gilchrist, Smith, Gayle and many more are worthy of their positions. BUT it makes it more difficult for the bowlers because they have to adjust their line and length when they bowl.

Some bowlers get completely confused but the best in the world learn to adapt. In International cricket it may cause some disruption in the bowlers rythm and even confidence. However most teams know before the time who they will be playing and prepare for the opening batsman.

I agree with the fact that left/right combination will disrupt the line n length of most bowlers, but answer to ur question is I thk opening batsman is a specialist job so if u have 2 very solid openers n they are right handers then surely captain and coach will then them rather than going to left/right combination

So i thk Hayden langer Strauss Gayle jayasuriya Gilchrist Anwer(former superb Pakistani opener), etc are specialist openers same time they are left handers. they didn't become openers just bcuz they are left handers if that is the case James Anderson cud be an opener too.

Also there are lots of high quality openers who are right handers.

I think, not the left handed batsman but right-left combination, to disturb the bowler's length and line.

Normally Left and Right combination is preferred as Bowlers will find it difficult to adjust bowling to such combinaton.

There confident are an excellent style of elegant lefties accessible, yet i could reckon for each record of elegant lefties, you additionally could make up a itemizing of elegant righties; and yet another record of lefties batting grotesque... i do no longer think of "form" has something to do with left / good handedness...
