I assume they are a person like me trying to get through life without people constantly second guessing me.

You have to get to know a person to KNOW things about them. Duh.

I can usually tell their cultural heritage by looking at them but of course I'm not always correct. I dont' assume they speak their native language either, if I get to know them I will ask them if they speak a different language at home, as I can speak a little Mandarin and Japanese and I'm always eager to learn more.
Another problem with assuming someone speaks Chinese is that there are a lot of different languages spoken in China so there is no true Chinese language.

I don't assume a thing, except if I know the person. And I assume things only for those persons I know, no matter the origins.

Worst of all, well some times I'M wrong even then for everyone able of surprises.

Anyways best wishes to you and yours

They're not natives (live in Eastern Eur)... far more Koreans live here and I'd be more likely to assume they spoke Korean. Otherwise, can't say I have any other 'every time I see an Asian...' thoughts...

Oh, God, no, I don't assume they can speak Chinese. There are Japanese, Korean, etc people and they probably have English as their first language anyway.

Sometimes I assume they are quiet and studious.

I used to assume they're a good student, but I know too many that are flunking out of school, so I don't think that anymore.
