I'll bite. Darkness is dimensionless. It is expressed logarithmically, as a density. For example, dark sunglasses with a density of 1.0 will only let 10 percent of the light through, density 2.0 only lets 1 percent through, density 3.0 lets just 1/1000 through. If you do any arc welding, you'll want density 5, which is dark enough to look at the sun.
