I read a Readers Digest article years ago and it featured this Poem.

The Optimist fell 12 stories,
And at each window bar
He called to his friends who were frightened below,
"Well, I'm alright so far!"

Does anyone know where its from or who wrote the Readers Digest article on it? It was by a lady who first heard the poem while helping out at an old peoples home. Then she related how it helped her later on in life.

I can't find the article, but I managed to find the anthology it's apparently contained in. Hope this proves useful to you.

And at each window bar
He shouted to the folks inside:
“Doing all right so far!”

Yes! I knew of this poem from a grade school English book. It had a picture of a guy with a big nose and a suit. While he fell, he had one eye winked and had a thumbs-up for the people as he passed by the windows. The only part I remembered was the "doing all right so far" portion. I'm glad someone knows the whole poem. Mystery solved!

What a wonderful story, been there on many situations, in particular after pickled onions! Made me snort; I'm English however 'Made in Scotland' and love to go back as mostly as I can. My Dad and Mum honeymooned in Scotland and made me there, in Pitlochry, so I think that I am an honorary Scot. Thanks for sharing ......
