The following questions and answers have been given to me. I believe they're correct, but I can't seem to produce the answers. If you can, please can you give me the formula you've used / explain how? I really appreciate it. Obviously, ten points to whomsoever gets there first.

Total votes : 120,680 A
Less spoiled votes 3,620 B
Votes not cast = 15 /100 x 120 680 C
A - ( B + C ) will give actual votes D
Moderate have got 43 % of D
ie 43/100 x D = E
Radical have 22% = 22/100 x D = F
For fisrst question E- F will give answer as same as given one.. same way you can find votes for each party and find answer for second question.
The twist in question the % are based on casted eligible votes..

a million. M=a million (sum of two 4-digit numbers < 20000) 2. S is 8 or 9 (to rigidity a carry) 3. O is 0 (a million is already used) 4. E+a million = N (from the 0.33 column with O = 0) 5. S = 9 (there's no carry from third column) 6. R = 8 (to rigidity a carry into third column, 9 is already used) 7. D + E = 10 + Y (we p.c. a carry into 2d column) 8. with 0 and a million used, D + E >= 12 9. if N=7, E=6, no value for D 10. if N < 6, E < 5 and D > 7 yet 8 and 9 are used 11. N = 6, E = 5. D = 7. Y = 2 9567 + 1085 = 10652

120680 total constituency. 15% did not vote, so 85% did vote
102578 votes. 3620 spoiled so 98958 valid votes.
A)
Moderates got 43%, Radicals got 22% so Moderates got (43 - 22) = 21% more votes.
21% of 98958 = 20781 more votes.
B)
Radical + Extremist + Countryside = 22% + 9% + 8% = 39% of votes
Moderates got (43 - 39) = 4% more votes
4% of 98958 = 3958 more votes

The numer of valid votes cast was
120,680 - ,15(120,680) -3620
=120680 - 18102 - 3620 = 98,958 valid votes
The majority of Moderate party over Radical party was;
(.43-.22 )(98958= ,21(98958)=20,781
The majority od Moderates over all others parties was:
(.43-.22-..09- .08)(98958 =.04(98958)=3958
Looks like they had the right answers.

Valid votes are (43+22+9+8)%=82%= 98958
Moderate party got 43% of 98958 = 42552 votes
Radical party got 22% of 98958 = 21771 votes
Extremist part got 9% of 98958 = 8906 votes
Countryside part got 8% of 98958 = 7917 votes
A = 42552-21771 = 20781
B = 42552-(21771+8906+7917) = 3958

QA. Number of valid votes = 120680 * 15 % -3620=98958
M.P has got 98958 * 43% = 42552
R.P has got 98958* 22% =21771
---------------------------------------------
Majority of votes =(M.P-R.P) =20781
---------------------------------------------
Qb. Sum of %tages of all the parties other than M.P is
= 22% + 9% + 8% =39% (Thinking remaining 18 % of valid votes are distributed among the independents)
ie. number of votes gained by all parties other than M.P
=98958 * 39% =38594
Consequently, number of majority of votes = 42552-38594 =3958

You will find it easier to use a calculator to work out the various percentages / figures. Have a look here: http://www.staff.vu.edu.au/mcaonline/units/percent/calculators.html Once you've worked through the examples on this link, apply the same to the figures as in your question.
