In many parts of India, the stomach is revered because it gives life. When a man greets his mother, he will sometimes kiss her stomach, to give honor to the womb that created him.

Indian Ladies In Saree

I don't agree with you. You must not live in the USA. There are girls as young as 10 that expose a little more than their stomach here. Not to mention people in their 20's and even 30's too. Showing the stomach isn't exactly wrong, there's nothing to cover up. And a belly button is in no way provocative, pierced or not. In the US, girls and women will go into clubs, parties and bars and take their tops off. In the dead of winter they will walk into a mall with nothing but a skimpy tank top and mini skirt and flip flops, in the summer it's even less!

They say they don't expose themselves as much because they don't. I've never heard of an Indian woman ripping off her saree to expose her boobs to men...In the US...they do. I've never head of Indian women wearing super tight low cut jeans and letting her thong and half her butt stick out...In the US...they do.

Legs are more private because they're the road to the vagina.

ok, India has a completely different culture than the West and consequently has a whole different concept of sexuality and decorum. In terms of sexuality, they are much more liberal in several ways and much stricter in several other ways. I'm sure there are as many Indian women in the USA who do show their stomachs as those who don't. Sometimes, when people from a one culture move into another, they go into overdrive and become a lot stricter than they were previously. This is because they are scared of losing their identity. Also, they can go the opposite and totally assimilate into their new surroundings. I think you might only be seeing what you choose to see around you. Try to be more objective perhaps? Or read up on your sociology, anthropology and social policy.

hello how do u want the Saree 2 be worn, do u think US people by covering there stomach they r descent,no way actually its kind of freeness or u can say boldness, by wearing mini skirts they try to provocate the opposite sex (BASIC INSTINCT) and to pull the opposite sex towards them but where as in India, ladies need not have to do all this the family will take care of searching the groom, once the marriage is over ladies become devotees of there husbands as u know pati a deva (husbands r being worshipped in India) as the slogan says, ladies cover themselves in a saree fully only a part of the stomach is seen, US ladies doesn't have a culture and they have to search there husbands and later on they cheat there husbands, where as Indians cover them selves from all type of evil eyed Romeos so definitely Indian ladies r more descent compared to US ladies.

I agree with u that they expose but at the same time there are some woman in USA also who expose the thighs and stomach and etc,.
but one thing is sure even if they expose nobody is gonna bother coz I think they are broad minded at the same time it's not like tat in India so they should not expose to stop the vulgar activities of few rouges there.
Nice Ques.

Saree is a traditional dress among many parts of India and it is decent and mix with our culture, and it is better then low neck T Shirts and above the knees skirts, and above all still better then thin strap and strapless things, Stomach exposure is not sexual and it was never considered sexual unless-it is exposed to much beyond limits, Understand my dear

In western countries, women are obsessed with their stomach being flat (as if someone ironed it!).
So they don't show it unless they consider it is pretty enough.
In India, curves are appreciated more, since they indicate a woman is in hip condition to bear children I think curves are much more attractive.
Saree is very sensual clothing, but it is not vulgar or uncomfortable (compared to a miniskirt that shows off the legs).
I think showing a bit of a tummy is fine; it is very feminine.
