Norton ghost works very well and you can have a second hard drive to drop in if the one fails. I think you can also use it to copy everything to a writeable DVD drive or USB hard drive

There are several disk copying programs, such as Drive Image and Norton Ghost which allow you to make a backup of your entire computer. Everything is normally compressed into one file which can then be used to duplicate the entire hard system on another hard drive (or to overwrite the original drive).

They are also nice for "disk cloning". You purchase a new hard drive for your PC. You can use the programs to duplicate the old hard drive onto the new one.

External USB or Firewire hard drives.

Run http://pclinuxos.com that boots in the CDrom, runs in RAM

'disc', and use the tools to ghost the drive!

hook up a external USB based hard drive and you can backup up stuff to that devices. Some of the manufacturers actually give you backup software included.
