The majority of democrats voted Against every piece of Civil Rights legislation since the Civil War! They still treat minorities as low life, second class citizens that are only of interest when they visit those churches two weeks before an election.
Lincoln's "civil war", the emancipation proclamation, where to start?
Point to you...Lincoln only freed the blacks in the south with that, but it was a start. So was the Cotton Gin 40 years previous, but that is another story.

No - Study your history and open your eyes.

A better question would be - What have minorities in this country done to improve their lives and make them equal to the majority?

If one equates Republican with Conservative, anyone has the opportunity to become a Republican in practice. My philosophy, which I consider to be conservative, is to allow motivated people to prosper. Allowing motivated people to prosper increases the economy, thereby making things better for all willing to give it half a chance. This, of course due to limited government intervention and minimized governmental assistance programs, may leave behind those unwilling to strive for success. Those unable to keep up are not neglected. The opposite of conservative, liberal, just doesn't make sense to me. Taking from the prosperous to giving to the unwilling (and unable)--flattens the economy (minimal re-investment in the future). My conservative philosophy knows no boundaries from a race standpoint.

What do you mean, "...MAKE them as importantly equal as the majority?"

That's the problem - you want races to be "artificially" made equal, by the government, via things like affirmative action, no doubt.

This causes even more racism and resentment amongst the so-called majority.

The solution is to just make yourselves equal by taking advantage of laws in place for two generations now that forbid discrimination based on race.

Just go out and succeed.

"snowshoe" down below needs to actually read my answer.

I bet "oldbasshole" down below thinks ALL black politicians are just "tokens". Just WHO is racist here?

Speaking fiscally, they provide important balance against the Democratic party.
Either party left alone without fear of repraisals losing their seat would run this country into the ground.

Oh, and not to forget that they freed the slaves.

I don't think that all Republicans are anti-equality, but it is hard to pinpoint anything they've done recently...or ever. I was talking to a big group of highly educated, politically active black men last year and they were saying the Republican party is really stupid for being so ignorant of American minorities...particularly blacks. Many African-Americans share some of the moral values of the party, yet the party treats them like second-class citizens, particularly in this last presidential run. Baaaad marketing.

The Republican Party ended slavery. The Democratic Party supported continuation of slavery.

They want everyone else to get the minimal amount that will keep them from revolting. They want to keep the major advantages to themselves.
The real weird part is that they have convinced so many people to vote against their own best interests without actually delivering on their promises.
