Just to explore my options (I'm not pregnant) I was recently finding out how you get about getting an abortion... it says that two doctors have to agree that you can have one. The grounds on which are:
having the baby would harm the woman's mental or physical health more than having the abortion. This involves the woman explaining how she feels about the pregnancy to a doctor.
having the baby would harm the mental or physical health of any children she already has.
If it just wasn't a suitable time, and I couldn't support it properly would this count? What kind of reasons do GPs expect and pass as reason to have an abortion?

I feel the need to say a little louder.. I'm not pregnant, I'm very good at contraception (being on Depo-Provera). Being a Sociologist and a responsible person I am exploring how abortions work and what are the requirements are and the options available. I until now didn't realise that it was possible to get an abortion because its not convenient to the parents (note I didn't include the part of the policy that refers to abortions being allowed if its likely the child will have a birth defect etc??). I'm not saying I condone it, nor saying I am having one. Nothing. I'm looking at if from one perspective. So, if you're just going to go on about how abortion is murder, that's old news and un-interesting. Please only answer if you have something useful to say.

to get an abortion a person must see there gp and get referred to the hospital. there they will receive councelling from a doctor or nurse and then go to see another doctor. it is unlikely that they will refuse the abortion because if a person clearly states that this was unplanned and a complete accident then being forced to carry on with the pregnancy will itself be devastating to the mothers mental health!
i am a nurse and with regards to all people who say that abortion is a selfish evil thing to do then they are wrong! i think that an abortion has got to be one of the hardest things a woman has to go through and is not a decision they come across lightly.

So you're in the UK, then...?
"In England, Wales and Scotland abortion is legal under 24 weeks of pregnancy if two doctors agree that it is necessary for one of the following reasons...
-- having the baby would harm the woman's mental or physical health more than having the abortion. This involves the woman explaining how she feels about the pregnancy to a doctor..."
Depending on the doctor, "It would make me unhappy to bear a child right now" would, I suspect, pass for enough of a reason. (Is it really going to make you unhappy, though?) UK law looks to me to be designed to not prevent women from getting abortions so much as it looks to be set up to prevent women from using it as birth control.
These people:

have all the information you need, and then some.
"Abortion at Marie Stopes International..."

There's even an "On-line counselling guide."

I think you would have to discuss with your GP and they would assess you. I wouldn't have a clue how to go about it really, but that's what I'd do. Now that I'm pregnant (24 weeks) I don't think I could ever have an abortion, but I do think women should have a choice, but shouldn't be allowed to abort so late as they can now, unless its for a medical reason.
Quite a few women have abortions, so I don't expect it is impossible to have your GP agree.

I know around here you would just go to a family planning clinic. They councel you for about a week and then you pay and the dasterdly deed is done.
I honestly, totally agree with the fact that some people just shouldn't be parents. There are people around me I'm just astounded by all the time. There parents were duds and thus....they're duds.
That aside. Do you realize how many loving families there are out there who want children? Who would give ANYTHING for a baby? There are people out there who have gone into debt and then some for fertility treatments just to have their dreams vanquished yet again.
Why is it the people who don't deserve children get pregnant and just want to murder their innocent, beautiful child for inconvinience, but the people who really deserve and want nothing more than a child can't have one?
This world doesn't make sense.

No. I hope that if this ever did happen to you, you would think 100% about the unborn child. An abortion is a killing of an unborn child and there has to be exceptional reasons why you have an abortion. Even if there was and you had one, you still have to live with that guilt for a lifetime, even though you know if was the best thing you could do for the unborn child. Abortion should not be allowed for any selfish circumstances, only on the basis that the Mother or unborn child would be deeply affected mentally or physically.
Your question sent a shudder down my spine, the thought of killing an unborn child because your circumstances weren't right, or you couldn't afford one,or it wasn't the right time are not good enough reasons.

You would first go to your GP then be referred to your local clinic to see another person who will establish you're viable for treatment. Just the fact that you don't want the pregnancy would be enough for most doctors. As long as they know the pregnancy wasn't planned or wanted you wouldn't come across people trying to stop you. Though you may get attitude because of a doctors personal opinions they do have to stay objective whilst treating you. I am speaking from personal experience.

Go go to your GP initially and express your wish for a termination - they are not there to judge and will make the arrangements for you to visit a clinic. When you first visit the clinic you are seen by a different doctor ad he/she will sign the form for termination to go ahead. You are then asked to return to the clinic to have termination carried out - the follow up appointment is done by your GP. And thats it. In my opinion its currently far too easy to get an abortion - you dont have to explain the reasons why - just that you wish to terminate. These clinics are full of women who are on their 3rd termination - I feel its wrong to be used as a form of contraception xx

If you are making advance plans then I think that it makes more sense to spend your time finding out how to make very sure you don't get pregnant if you are not prepared to have a child. Rather than finding out how to get rid of a child if you make it.
Having an abortion is not a form of contraception.

i think of we could continually provide an excellent gamble for toddler to be born. Human and animals alike.. nature have the thank you to regulate them (relatively for animals). i've got not got a puppy atm, yet there are a set of stray cats in my complicated that help to regulate the rat inhabitants (and lizard, they in specific circumstances consume them).

strange question..if you don't want to get pregnant, then do everything possible not to. I'm pro life, so whatever choice you make if it did happen is yours. Just don't waste your questions on here. You'll just get alot of flack and "advice" from people saying you're a killer.
