I'm a bit of a worrier (well... hypocondriact to be honest with myself) and recently convinced myself I might be pregnant so got a couple of home tests. Took them - and they came back negative. However, being the worrier that I am, I'm concerned (and probably shouldn't indulge myself so much) that they're not very accurate - espeically considering all the stories you hear of people getting the wrong result. Seriously speaking, are they acturate? Can I trust that I am not pregnant?

Honestly most pregnancy tests are 99% accurate if they are taken at least the day you would expect your period. In very very rare cases a home pregnancy test may not even be able to detect pregnancy in some women. I have never actually met a woman that this has happened to so it is very rare. I say if you are still getting negatives by the time you are late for your period then you probably aren't pregnant and your period is just being delayed. However after a week and no period then have a blood pregnancy test done to find out for sure if you are one of those women who the test won't show up pregnancy. For this pregnancy I used every imaginable test from the cheap ones to the digitals and they all worked. As a matter of fact the dollar general $4 test showed up positive first so how expensive or cheap the test is doesn't matter.

Depends on the test. I think they are pretty accurate nowadays. Many have something on the box to say how accurate they are. 99% accuracy means that if 100 pregnant women use the test ONE will be told that she isn't pregnant when in fact she is.

Home pregnancy tests test for HCG which is the human growth hormone and is only produced when you are pregnant. Sometimes however the concentration is too low to be measured by the test kit. The amount of HCG present rockets in the first days of pregnancy so the simplest thing to do is to try the test again a few days later using a different brand. That way if you are pregnant the level of HCG will have risen to a higher level. And by using a different brand you can reassure yourself that it's not the the test at fault if it comes back negative again.

They are highly accurate. The time when people get most false readings is when they do them a few days after they think they're pregnant - so the hormone that triggers the positive test hasnt yet circulated in the body. If you've done 2 and you think you're more than 4 weeks pregnant they should be right. If in doubt wait a week and do another xx

Yes, you can most likely assure that your not pregnant. I have 4 kids and I am pregnant with my fifth and I have taken a home pregnancy test with each one of them and all five came back positive. The test is usually 99.9% accurate. If for some reason your not 100% convinced then you could call your OB and have him run a blood test. You can stop worrying now they are accurate.

I only went to the wellbeing branch some weeks in the past for a being pregnant attempt, and that that they had me take a urine attempt. At domicile I took a Walgreen's kind attempt and a typical reaction attempt, and the two have been given an extremely faint 2nd line. The nurse mentioned their attempt is in between the two as a tactics by way of fact the point of hcg they attempt for, and that i've got been given the comparable result there, the 2nd line extremely confirmed up, yet they shown it as a effective. Later in the week, I took my 2nd First reaction attempt and it confirmed up 2 darkish lines superb away. i'm not sure if this facilitates in any respect, yet a blood attempt is def the main precise.

No they do not I'm proof of that. I have 4 kids & each time I was pregnant I took a home pregnancy test it always came up negitive. I had to get blood test to see if I was pregnant at the doctors. Even the most expencive home pregnancy test did not work. When really I was 2 months pregnant.

They read the certain hormone level in your wee, so if you test when you are only 1 or 2 days pregnant, then you may get a wrong result. If you are unsure test again in a week.

In any case you will definitely get an answer in about 9 months.

The home tests work on the same principal as the one the Doc uses. Like someone has said, if it comes back positive the Dr doesn't even do a test. You've taken 2 tests and they're negative-stop worrying!

:-)

I took 2 tests when i was pregnant and both came out positive, I even bought asdas/wallmarts own cheap brand. I also took one test in the morning and one at night as I was told the harmone it tested for was strongest in the morning and weakest at night. The night time positive line was lighter in colour but it was still positive. So i'd say the tests are very reliable, even the cheap ones.
