Do you think government officials read newspapers, watch Jay Leno, or go to the movies? They are people like everyone else. A forum such as this gives them a perfect opportunity to walk among their subjects unnoticed. During the last election, there were quite a few points that candidates brought up that were first mentioned and discussed here.
They may not ask questions or post answers, but I'm sure they read the content.

Without a doubt...but not in the sinister, paranoid Big Brother fashion you have presented.
Hey government officials are typical people...they like to checkout different thinks on the web. So why not reading Yahoo Answers to the questions they have asked on Yahoo Answers?
Who know maybe a government official might use an ID like....CIA Spook or MR NASA? Really how would ever know if they did or didn't work for the CIA or NASA. Honestly...how many people use variation of President Bush's name. Maybe some guy from NASA states the obvious as his ID?
Who cares if government officials read the questions and answers? If you put in on a forum like Yahoo it's public knowledge.

I am constantly amazed by who some of the people who are here regularly are.It would not surprise me to find that this site gets the attention of many who most would never think would be here. This is a very busy place and open to all and you can be who you want.I use a front picture and name as most do that is best in my opinion.I am just poor white trash so you would not be impressed with me but my mind still works better than my earning skills.I don't think anyone will give up the chance to just be a poster.

I saw a photo of George Bush holding a book upside down in a classroom, so Bush can't be reading Yahoo. People who work in high places could just use this forum as entertainment and pass on what they read at the water cooler the next day, but I don't think the FBI or CIA has operatives checking us out.

they probably pay some people very handsomely just to surf the net all day as a matter of fact I know they do because of the legality disputes with google to turn over info on people using the website. yahoo and aol had already given in without a fight so yes we are watched.

We don't now what Government officials are really doing...that's the problem..so yes it's possible some of them might be reading Yahoo Answers...just as many are reading blogs and conspiracy sites.

"Just 'cause I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out there to get me",( some old film)
seems to me to sum it up nicely.
I bet they do, and I bet somebody somewhere is paid to evaluate the answers , too.
What good it'll do them is another question.
The only real purpose might be to sort out the most stupidly fervent jingoists and approach them to find willing tools for some unsavoury task or other? ;-)

If they are, they are looking for kooks.
If you think this site represents what average Americans are thinking, you are crazy.
Most Americans want to barely notice politics, want to feel safe in their homes, and earn enough money to take care of their families. They want the government out of sight, out of mind.

yes, i do. however, i haven't said anything was threatening, damning, unlawful or dangerous to myself, others or my country. i also know that we are protected under the first amendment (for the most part). most of what people say here isn't any worse than what political analysts, politicians and the journalists say on television.
maybe i am talking to the feds right now....hmmmmm
