Great place to see. Since you are going there spend 2 nights in Aqaba too. And check Jerash or Jarash ruins near Amman.

Petra is amazing! I'd recommend buying a travel guide from lonely planet or one of the other travel guide companies for info on accommodations, etc.

I would also recommend the Wadi Rum area, Aqaba on the Red Sea, the Roman ruins at Jerash. It is really a beautiful and amazing part of the world.
