Of course, history has told us how the captives were being mistreated. It's horrendous and you wouldn't want to see the full picture.

An occupation doesn't necessary bring fear and suffer to the locals.

The Japanese actually don't disturb much of the locals, it's the non-Japanese elements that disturb them very much.

The same goes for the current USA-Britain in Iraq, and also Saddam before it. And in a kind of way, both USA and Britain are also currently occupied by a foreign power.

Proxy war, remember that.

Any occupation by outsiders bring fear and hatred to the occupied. Japanese are no exception. The same goes with the present occupation of Iraq by outsiders.

British personnel and their wives and families were taken captive in Malaysia.They were held in P.O.W camps and horribly tortured including being starved to death.
