You won't always have an experience to KNOW that your hymen is broken. Some people experience pain and or bleeding when it happens, but not all. Exercise or using tampons can stretch it out such that you don't experience those symptoms.
Some peoples hymens are more resilient than others.
Even after you've had intercourse, your hymen isn't completely gone... Remnants of it tend to stay at the opening of your vagina. You may see this as a little bit of extra skin at the opening inside your inner lips (if you use a mirror obviously). Hymen remnants can stay up until your first vaginal child birth.

Upon first having sex.. if your hymen hasnt been broken or stretched by some other means, then you'll feel a slight pinch.. Its not that painful, only like a mild paper cut or something. You might even notice a tiny bit of blood. Nothing major..

Your hymen will be broken for so many reasons that even if it is, you will still be able to truly present yourself to your bf as a virgin.
