Do you know of a website where I can download free comprehension exercises for year 5 student?

My nephew needs help with his reading comprehension. I would like some examples of passages with questions that I can coach him on. He is 11 years old.

I cant find the dept of ed. website with the worksheets & teaching aids. Do you know the address or can you post a link (add http:// to the start of the web address to post in answer)

I firmly beleive that worksheets do not improve comprehension. By the time a student is 11, if he hasn't figured out how to understand text, then it needs to be taught to him/her in a new way and he needs someone to directly show him and model for him to to think about what he reads. Some kids figure this out on their own. Some dont. Talk to a reading teacher (specialist) at your child's school and have them show you how to model good reading and thinking techniques. Reading a book and demonstrating these processes is far more useful than any time spent with a worksheet. The specialist should also be able to show you some lower level, high-interest books that you can use to do various reading exercises with. Reading real books is always a better choice than reading a worksheet.
