Yes they can. My doctor recommended that my son start cereal at 1 month because he has GERDS a baby acid reflux disease. He wasnt able to keep anything down unless it had the cereal in it. IT made it thick enough for him to keep everything down. Hope this was some help to you.

Here in Australia the current recommendation is not to start any solids until six months of age.
Babies digestive systems are not mature enough until around then to handle solid food. Too much is absorbed through their small intestine, which can cause all kinds of problems now and also later in life, not the least of which is allergies.
Please wait, and when you do start solids, do be sure to use infant cerals, and not those made for adults. Adult cereals usually have salt and sugar levels (and chemicals) far exceeding what is safe for a baby.
There was a case here a couple of years ago of a baby (about seven months old I think) who died. Her parents fed her adult cereal and the high salt levels killed her.
Always err on the side of caution.
Good luck, and love to bub :)

Solid foods (that includes cereals) should not be started until closer to 6 months of age. The baby doesn't have the enzymes needed to break the cereal down.

Cereal isn't a "complete food" like breastmilk, and baby could be lacking in nutrients if he fills up on cereal and doesn't nurse as much.

Starting solids too early leads to an increased risk of allergies, diabetes and obesity.

The following organizations recommend that all babies be exclusively breastfed (no cereal, juice or any other foods) for the first 6 months of life (not the first 4-6 months):

World Health Organization
UNICEF
US Department of Health & Human Services
American Academy of Pediatrics
American Academy of Family Physicians
American Dietetic Association
Australian National Health and Medical Research Council
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
Health Canada

Generally you can start a baby on rice cereal any time between 4 and 6 months. Any earlier than that would need to be recommended by your doctor. At 4 months you can start the cereal if your baby:

* Sits with support
* Can hold his/her head up and can turn it
* Shows ability to swallow non-liquid food, instead of pushing it out
* Shows interest in seeing food and gets excited when it's being prepared

At one month old the baby is too young. They rec. 4 months of age to start.

I know some families feel cereal will help baby to sleep longer, but that is a myth. There are no studies that support that therory.

If still you want to give your baby cereal please, please, please do so with a spoon only. Cereal in the bottle can cause choking, especially at such a young age.

My daughter is 5 months old and we started her on the rice cereal in her bottle at a month old. She took to it very well. We, of course, checked with her doctor first and he said that we could start with a little and see how she did with it. Now she wont have a bottle with out it.

they can start whenever you want them to but the doctors dont recommend it until 4 months. I use to put a tablespoon in my babys bottle when she was 2 months to help her sleep through the night. she is 6 months now and she is fine but it is not recommended by the doctors to do that.

they can if you give it to tem. but it is not recomended before 4 months of age for a reason, the reason is because their little immature stomach and that cannot digest any more food than milk.
my baby is 4 and a half months and still spits it out, i will wait till 5months and then try again.
